About me!
Hi everyone 👋
My name is Beckie – though many know me as Bec.
I’ve lived in the Litchfield Shire for over 30 years, and during that time I’ve proudly worn many hats across our local community.
As a single mum, I raised my three children on a property just under 50 acres. Like many others, I’ve seen firsthand how our council rates have changed over the years – and I’ve also experienced the impact of invasive weeds and the immense work required to manage them.
My children attended Berry Springs Primary School before being home schooled. While they were there, I served as the School Council Chairperson and was proud to instigate the construction of the cyclone shelter. I also ran the school canteen and established the childcare program, which provided before and after school care, as well as holiday care – all staffed by local people.
Environmental care has always been close to my heart. Through the childcare program, we participated in the Keep Australia Beautiful cleanups. I’m passionate – and seriously concerned – about the rubbish littering our roads, reserves, and crown lands, much of which ends up in our waterways. I regularly clean up the area leading into Hardys Creek from Cox Peninsula and Mala Plains Roads. I’d love to work with the community to tackle this better.
I also served over 10 years as a volunteer with the Berry Springs Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, earning a service medal for this combined with my time as a volunteer with St John Ambulance.
For the past 11 years, I’ve owned and operated Berry Springs Mechanical, providing 24-hour local support including tilt tray services. In the last year, I began running free monthly workshops called Bec’s Basics, teaching essential car maintenance skills. I’ve also hosted and mentored local students for work experience, some of whom have gone on to paid positions, because I believe in employing locals wherever possible.
I’ve proudly sponsored the Litchfield Bears for the past 7 years and donate annually to the Starlight Foundation and Special Children’s Christmas Party. My love of motorsport has led me to support Jaydon O’Connor in motorbike racing and Rossi Johnson in his V8 SuperUtes and Toyota Series journey.
I’m deeply passionate about this community and I want to be your advocate; a voice for locals at the council level.
I’ll be out and about over the next few weeks and would love to have a chat about how I can help support our Shire.
Warm regards,
Beckie
